Day to day
Our ethos of ‘one home, one family’ provides parents with the optimum opportunity to demonstrate their parenting capacity.
During their stay with us, families should treat No. 51 as their own home and use the facilities as they wish. It is important for families to work towards being as independent as possible. This enables staff to gain a well-informed picture of how a parent would function on a day-to-day basis if they were living in their own home.
Parents, therefore, remain responsible for keeping the home clean, purchasing their own food, cooking their own meals and caring for their own children. However, our staff will support parents with these tasks.
Children’s safety remains of the upmost importance when families stay with us. The relaxation of supervision is based on the signs of safety observed and inline with a parent's progress.
What to expect
Creating a family Families will be encouraged to build up a memory box containing photographs, cards and memorabilia throughout their stay with us.
Education & Employment Families will be supported by staff at No. 51 to develop skills, interests, future goals, emotional resilience and self-esteem.
Financial training Parents will be supported to develop financial management skills including weekly budgeting skills, claiming benefits and longer term saving.
Health No. 51 has links with local primary health care services and we work in cooperation with health agencies. Families will be supported to engage with services to meet their physical and mental health needs.
Practical support Staff will assist the parents with practical support in their parenting and selfcare, which will include but won’t be limited to meal planning, cooking and preparing healthy balanced meals, cleaning and maintaining the home and maintaining a standard of personal care, hygiene and grooming, all whilst taking care of and bonding with their child.
If appropriate, the Key Worker and Registered Manager will promote contact between the parent and their family members, including the child’s siblings, where this is consistent with the child’s welfare and the assessment process.
Rules There are basic house rules contained in our policies and procedures designed to keep everyone safe and to create respectful relationships between families and staff. These cover issues like drug and alcohol consumption, violence, bullying and equal opportunities issues such as racial, religious and sexual discrimination. All parents and, if appropriate, their children are provided with copies of these rules.
Smoking/Vaping We operate a no-smoking/vaping policy within the house to minimise the risk of fire and to provide a smoke free environment for children, parents, visitors and staff. We have an outdoor smoking/vaping area.
Supervision All parents are supervised on a one-to-one level at the start of any stay. This helps staff to establish risk levels and understand each family’s strengths and needs. The relaxation of supervision is regularly reviewed together with the children’s social worker. The intention is to work towards independence with minimum observation and support.
